I’m a big fan of 80’s music, so I thought the “vaporwave” lo-fi style would’ve been the perfect style for this flyer and merchandise mockup project.
It’s called the “Outrun fest” because it’s featuring old artists from the 80’s (some that have probably already passed away), along with artists that use a lot of synthesizers in their work that convey an 80’s feel. I was also thinking maybe it could have been some charity event where people entered into a race while the concert was going on or something. The event is taking place in October, so I thought a skull would be fitting for the spooky season.
Project Development
Moodboards: I don’t have photos of the mood-boards I made, but it all contained images of “Vaporwave” subjects like the grid, sunset, and palm trees. Most of the colors seemed to be green, purple, and yellow. I used photoshop to make the mood-boards.
References: I used a reference image of a cat skull to create the purple skull shown in the images.
Illustrator: Purple is known to be a spiritual and transcendental color, hence why it’s purple and why the green glowing grid is heading into the skull. I used the pen tool in Illustrator to create the shapes of the lightest and darkest parts of the skull.
Photoshop: I created a glow around the text of the artists and location and a bit of shading beneath the title and date of the event to make it stand out a little more. I also lowered the opacity on the top of the front palms to try to give more attention to the artist texts.
Things I Would Fix or Change: I would fix the spelling of “San Francisco” and “The” in “Siouxsie and the Banshees.” I’d also probably change up some of the mockups with a different illustration, but I wanted it all to be consistent at the time.
